Help make childbirth special for women and their babies during and after their pregnancies

Helping to bring a new child into the world is a very special experience. You can specialize in perinatal care, labor and delivery or after birth nursing care. All are rewarding and challenging, and all have opportunities and support for research to find better ways to care for patients at our LVH-Cedar Crest campus.

    Preparing Mothers for Childbirth

Help expecting mothers prepare for childbirth in our Perinatal Care Center. You’ll help conduct genetic tests, regular exams and help answer patients’ questions. With your guidance and support they will be prepared for childbirth. You also could care for women with high-risk pregnancies, due to heart conditions, diabetes or other conditions. Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network is a national leader in caring for women whose conditions make their pregnancies high risk.

    Labor and Delivery Care

As a nurse on our labor and delivery unit, you will guide women through their pregnancies, helping to make the delivery of their child a special experience. You’ll use critical thinking to manage pain, track contractions and monitor fetuses. You’ll also support patients and their families, answering their questions and ensuring they are as comfortable as possible during the delivery. You can also feel comfortable knowing that you’ll be supported by maternal-fetal medicine specialists and neonatologists, who are in the hospital 24 hours a day. In fact, you’ll be part of team that reviews and discusses the status of every mom and baby with obstetricians, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, neonatologists, residents and anesthesiologists. If a mom requires special care, the entire team will have her history and can get involved.

    Caring for New Moms

In our Center for Mother and Baby Care, you’ll help mothers care for their newborns, from breastfeeding to bathing, as well as themselves. You’ll care for your families in a comfortable and new environment. This unit cares for up to 27 mothers and their families at one time. With your care, they’ll leave feeling healthy and confident.
